The Invisible City - Story of Isaura

Isaura, a city build on top of underground streams and wells, where the gods live in the underworld and play in the watering systems throughout the city. The illustration is based on Italo Calvino's description of this imaginary city in his book Invisible Cities. A fantastic read with amazing detailed descriptions of the most impossible cities.

Conceptual Collages of Isaura

In this project, we mainly focus on studying the relationship between the wells and pipes. From the story of Isaura, we knew that there were two cities. One is in the upper part, the other is in the lower part. Therefore, from the conceptual collage, it was clearly showing two cities in Isaura. The upper part mainly consist of pipes while in the lower part, it is maily consist of wells.

Concept Development

The most significant of Isaura is the "Thin", therefore, we have to express the feature of thin but the city still there. The approach is to use different perspectives to express the city. The initial concept is to align the city in vertical. The abve drawing shows the intentional arrangment of Isaura.
