EMSD Education Path - Design Proposal
Overview
In our design proposal, we are going to present 5 major design deliverables on redesign the exhibition gallery and the outdoor space.
For the exhibition gallery, in order to enhance the experience of the visitors during their trip to EMSD’s education path, we sincerely propose two directions - Scheme 1 ‘Future City’ and Scheme 2 ‘ Soft EMSD’. For the outdoor space, we have worked on two things o strengthen the linkage between the public and EMSD. First, the reconstruction on its landscapes, we have - Scheme 1 ‘Rope Course Peeking’ and Scheme 2 ‘ Rope Course Tunnel’. Second, we built a mobile application to assist self-guide tour at our outdoor section.
Scheme One - Future City
The scheme adopted a thematic approcah to tell the story of our future. We believe there is a causal effect between what we have done today and what will be resulted tomorrow. However, we are all busying with our own life, seldom do we consider our relationship with the world’s condition. Therefore, ‘Future City’ is here to waken the visitors’ sense of mission in protecting our home, together with the team, technicians and staff from EMSD.

Future City - Zoning Arrangement
There are 7 main areas in the ground floor exhibition gallery of EMSD headquarter. They are Meeting the Future, The Path of Time, Mission Lobby, Gear Breaker, SIM City, Energy Rider and Creative Builder. On zone 1 to zone 2, it is a one-way circulation. Later, when the visitors enter the Mission Lobby, they will receive a mission order from our characters to begin their journey. Therefore, zone 4-6 are a free circulation space which allow visitors to explore by themeselves. Eventually, their contribution to the future will be visualised in zone 5.
Scheme Two - Soft EMSD
The Scheme focuses on the creation of soft space mood in EMSD headquarter. The softness will be demonstrated in both space design and branding for EMSD. We aim at creating a delighted and impressive experience to visitors and space users. Moreover, it is hoped that the image of EMSD towards the public can be recostructed.

Soft EMSD - Zoning Arrangement
There are 3 main areas in the ground floor public space of EMSD headquarter - Lobby, EMSD cafe and Education path. The two spaces lobby and EMSD cafe are connected together. When people enter EMSD lobby, the smell of cafe can help visitors relax their mood. EMSD information exhibition is displayed in the education path space within five zones - Marine , Earth, Air, Power and City. When visitors finish their journey in the education path, they can take a rest here and enjoy the soft space mood.
Outdoor Space Scheme One - Rope Course Peeking
Design Concept
As a part of the landscape, the scheme does not only wish to beauty the environment, but is given a deeper meaning with EMSD. By adopting the representation method of ‘Rope Course’, the scheme would like to tell the public that - the services provided from the EMSD is just like an invisible network which is covered our while life and all round the society. In this section, we are going to introduce the concepts and features of the scheme with well-illustrated plans and diagrams.
Outdoor Space Scheme Two - Rope Course Tunnel
Design Concept
Having similar concept with the above scheme, ‘Rope Course Tunnel’ is different. The tunnel represented the network and the connection between EMSD and the society. It is hoped that the participants passes through the tunnel and understand more of the cope of EMSD work after visiting the education path. In the section, concept and features of the scheme will be introduced with well-illustrated plans and diagrams.
